Club News In Brief....

Rotary Club of Castle Rock President Ed Brewer presents a $3,000 check to Suzanne Green, Executive Director of the Douglas/Elbert County Task Force.

CASTLE ROCK - The Rotary Club of Castle Rock has donated $3,000 to the Douglas/Elbert County Task Force.

Club President Ed Brewer presented a check to Task Force Executive Director Suzanne Green at the club's Wednesday morning meeting.

Brewer said the club recognized that January through March were some of the highest demand months for Task Force services. The Task Force provides food and other aid to residents of Douglas and Elbert counties.

Brewer also said that each week club members would bring in food, personal hygiene items and other things to support the Task Force. The collection effort will go through the end of February.

Greene, in accepting the check, told club members "we love that Rotary has taken ownership of the Task Force and that you trust us to spend the $3,000."

She said the money would be used to help the Task Force increase the services it provides its clientele.

Greene said that in 2011 the Task Force, at 1638 Park St., Castle Rock, had provided more than $600,000 worth of food and hygiene products to people in need and that the total spent on aid was about $1,370,690. She said 92 percent of that was spent on Douglas County residents and about 8 percent on Elbert County residents. About 61 percent of the Douglas County residents served are from Castle Rock, Greene said.

She also said the Task Force is finishing a remodel of their facilities which will improve the organization's ability to serve its clientele. The Rotary Club of Castle Rock helped with the remodel with labor and a Rotary grant of $6,000.

The remodel will separate client services from the Task Force's thrift store and provide a more convenient donation drop off, Greene said. She said the thrift store expects to do more than a quarter of a million dollars in business this year.

The Task Force can be reached at 303-688-6129. For more information, go to www.detaskforce.org.

The Rotary Club of Castle Rock is part of Rotary International and meets every Wednesday at the Village Inn in Castle Rock. For more information on the Rotary Club, go to www.rotaryclubofcastlerock.org.

Club Holds 25th Anniversary and "Change Over" Dinner

June 24, 2011 - The Rotary Club of Castle Rock held its annual "change over" dinner this evening at the Plum Creek Golf Club in Castle Rock. The dinner was the occasion for recognizing club members and officers for their service during the year ending on June 30. The dinner also marks the official change over to the new officers and directors who will serve in the year beginning July 1.

The dinner this year was particularly special as we celebrated the 25th year of our Club's operations, having been founded in 1986. To honor this, a number of past presidents were in

attendance.

We were honored by Patricia Fiske, District 5450 Secretary and a truly great Rotarian, who spoke to the club. We were pleased to have Steve Baroch, Assistant Governor for Area 5 at the dinner. Also an energetic and talented Rotarian.
